A tax practice that happens to be very good at paperwork

Why we started

Most people meet their tax preparer once a year. They hand over a folder, sign what they're told to sign, and hope it came out right. That works until something changes — a business, a house sale, a move across state lines, a year that went much better than the last one — and by then the decisions that would have mattered were made months earlier.

The other half of the problem is access. Plenty of good preparers will only take clients who can come to the office, and plenty of online services will take anyone but hand you a chatbot when something goes wrong. Neither is much use if you have a multi-state return and an actual question.

We built Capital Tax Services to be neither: real people who know your file, working with clients anywhere in the country, and available in September as well as April.

What we handle

Personal and business tax returns, in any state and across multiple states. Business formation and entity filings — LLCs and corporations, EINs, annual reports, reinstatements and changes of company information.

We also run a trucking compliance line for owner-operators and carriers across the country: IRP renewals, IFTA, UCR, MC and USDOT authority and Form 2290. These file with your base jurisdiction or with the federal agency, so being in Illinois is no barrier to serving a carrier based anywhere in the U.S. It's a smaller part of the practice than the tax work, but it pairs naturally with it — the same clients usually need both.
